INTERIOR ALUMINUM DOOR AND WINDOW FRAMING
PART 1 GENERAL
1.1 SECTION INCLUDES
A. Interior aluminum door frames and fixed window frames.
1.2 RELATED SECTIONS

1.3 SUBMITTALS
A. Submit under provisions of Section 01300.
B. Product Data: Manufacturer’s data sheets on each product to be used, including :

Preparation instructions and recommendations

2.
Storage and handling requirements and recommendations
C. Shop Drawings: Indicate pertinent dimensioning, general construction, component connections and locations,
anchor methods and locations.
D. Samples: Provide full range of aluminum color samples for finish product specified. Supply (2) samples of each
aluminum frame, not less than 12” long, in the desired finish.
1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Manufacturer Qualifications: Frames shall be manufactured by a single firm regularly engaged in the production of
interior aluminum door and window frames having at least 5 years of experience.
B. Installer Qualifications: Minimum 2 years experience installing similar systems and acceptable to the manufacturer.
C. Product Qualifications: Constructed and tested in full compliance at all locations where fire rated assemblies are
required by the authority having jurisdiction, frames shall be certified as having been tested in accordance with an
approved independent agency’s requirements and shall comply with all local governing authorities’ standards for fire
protection.
1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Deliver products in manufacturers packaging with installation instructions.
B. Replace items damaged in delivery, unless damage is minor and can be repaired to match intact items, as determined
by Architect.
C. Store products under cover, raised above ground level, and stacked to prevent warping and to promote air
circulation.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.1 MANUFACTURERS

2.2 ALUMINUM FRAMES
A. General: Fabricate frames for scheduled openings, in standard manufacturer’s styles and profiles, as shown, using 
concealed fasteners.

Minimum Frames Extrusion Wall Thickness: 0.062 inch

Construction: Base Frame, butt-jointed. Trim to be mitered with hairline seam.

3.
Door Mute: Provide mohair mute on all door frames.

4.
Glazing Bead: Provide Vinyl Glazing Bead, two (2) sides of Glass, to accommodate ¼ glass.

5.
Frame glass pocket can accommodate 3/8” glass, must be siliconed in.
B. Size: 1-3/4 inch door thickness

Door frame throat size: 3-3/4 inches

Door frame throat size: 4-7/8 inches

Door frame throat size: 7-1/4 inches

2.3 FABRICATION
A. General: Factory-fabricate assemblies to greatest extent possible, assuring that installed units will be without warp,
twist, bow, or other defect in appearance or function.
B. Windows/Sidelight Frames: Factory fabricated and complete per manufacturer’s standard extrusion details.
Coordinate with glass provided as work of another specification section.
2.4 MATERIALS
A. Extrusion Alloy 6063 T5.
2.5 FINISHES
A. Factory finish all extruded door frames and window frames as directed by the architect.

Commercial Dark Bronze Anodize: AA-M12C22A24
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Examine walls, floors, and ceilings, with installer present, for conditions affecting performance of work.

Verify that wall thickness does not exceed standard tolerances allowed by throat size indicated.

2.
Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
3.2 PREPARATION
A. Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.
B. Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the
substrate under the project conditions.
3.3 INSTALLATION
A. Install frames in accordance with manufacturer’s printed instructions and detailed drawings.
B. Install frames plumb and square securing door frame to the wall through the sides into drywall/stud or other wall
construction as specified.

Utilize corner alignment clips to assure correct frame connections.

Install snap on casing to conceal all fasteners. No exposed fasteners are visible upon completion of
C. At all fire rated openings; install frames in compliance with NFPA 80 and Manufacturer’s certified installation
instructions.
3.4 ADJUST AND CLEAN
A. Clean frame upon completion of installation using mild solution of soap and water or other non-toxic general cleaning
solution. Frames should be wiped dry immediately after cleaning. Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or solvents
deemed harmful to painted surfaces.
3.5 PROTECTION
A. Provide appropriate protection of pre-finished aluminum frames for duration of project.
